The AEC-Tech Internet Index: What It Does

We use data to shine light on AEC-Technology-related trends we focus on. Here, our data is objective internet traffic for hundreds of startups and scale-ups in architecture, engineering and construction (AEC) technology. Internet traffic gives us non-arbitrary, transparent and robust data points we can use to estimate various trends in AEC-Technology and Construction-Tech, eg. how widespread demand, mindshare and even brand is for venture categories and specific companies in AEC-Tech.

We hope the community takes the ideas, builds on them, makes them better. We ignore arbitrary 'best-of' lists and 'market maps' propagated by venture pundits.

Methodology

Scope: Foundamental's AEC-Tech Internet Index includes AEC-Tech startups and scale-ups across the globe from North America, Asia (exc. China), Oceania, Europe, Africa and Latin America. founded in 2010 or after, who raised at least a publicly-known total of $25 Million in equity funding. and who did not exit or deadpool before 2019. The Index excludes ventures that are predominantly prop-tech, building operations or logistics-only, or those that have a massive share of their online traffic/visits through an app (instead of website). If the venture is direct-to-consumer (D2C) in AEC, it must show service-components to be considered in scope - eg. Houzz is not in scope for this reason.

Sources: The primary data source for the AEC-Tech Internet Index is un-altered Semrush data. The data is updated monthly around the 10th day of each month. Semrush is widely regarded as accurate and reliable in web traffic analysis. While no web traffic analysis is perfectly correct - not even your own instance of Google Analytics - Semrush provides one of the most accurate estimates across the web. The latest version of Foundamental's AEC-Tech Internet Index is always available on foundamental.com/InternetIndex, and is also published monthly on Patric Hellermann's Linkedin at linkedin.com/in/aecvc/.
